Dedicated Computing uses designs based on low-power processors for applications that must run for many hours on battery power, such as mobile medical equipment, or devices that must operate sealed in a completely fanless environment.
Low-power processors also enable systems with no moving parts, in which typical components such as processor heatsink fans, chassis fans, optical drives and hard drives are removed from the system design.
This approach dramatically increases reliability—which is important in mission-critical systems, systems located far from service capability, or systems in areas where dust or other airborne contaminants would affect performance.
